The Color of Sound

Art offers a time and place where quiet contemplation is still possible. This collection of oil paintings on canvas are my way of recording sound vibrations in color, representing gentle waves of thought through undulating forms and passages. The visual language of color evokes my memory of sounds of the Mediterranean, which I experienced on two different creative residencies in Cassis, France (2015 and 2017). Sounds give way to form, created by the pulsing waves after the thrust of a passing ship, the splashing of a swimmer launching from the dock, or the ripple of a cool evening breeze.

Far from home, finding comfort in the sea

Connecting us all, like the roots of a tree

Pressure is gone, my body floats

Triggering thoughts by the splash of the boats

The fish swim by, ignoring my thrall

Happy snails making paths despite it all
